I’ve been painting!

It’s great to have been painting again after all my wire work in the last wee while, I decided that I’d have another go with watercolours. I unearthed some photos I took up near Ullapool a few years ago and chose one of Loch Broom to use.

Here’s the result:

Loch Broom

It’s fine, It hasn’t photographed particularly well but it’s ok. I enjoyed painting it but I’m not convinced by the result.

I’m not really used to painting with watercolours, I worked with them a bit in high school but that was really it.

Recently I thought I’d give them another go, here’s the result:

Harry the horse

It’s already a month into the new year…I’m not really sure how that happened or where the month went.

Oh well.

It’s been quite a while since I did any bloggy stuff, I’ve been doing plenty of arty stuff but just not really documenting it, partly because of camera problems (I lost the memory card).

Anyway I do have a few pictures of some of the things I’ve been up to and I fully intend to look for my memory card at some point, soonish, maybe later.

So here is a wee painting of Sammy the Samoyed;

Sammy

I really really hate painting white dogs. Really. (I painted Sammy under duress, it’s amazing what parents can guilt you into doing when they put their minds to it.)

I’ve still been painting lots of silhouette style paintings, birds and landscapes mostly.

Here’s a seascape that I tried to add a bit more light into;

The Lighthouse

And another of my birds on wire paintings.

Orange Bird

I’m planning on posting a bit more regularly again…so keep an eye out.

Here are a few bits and pieces I’ve been working on;

Things are pretty busy just now so I’m planning on doing only one or two posts a week for a while.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending most of the day with my lovely wee cousin; we spent time on the trampoline, she demonstrated how her “Aqua Beads” work, we played at the park, and painted together.

I don’t have a lot of experience with young children but I think she’s pretty amazing for a six year old. She asks some wonderful questions, starts some interesting conversations (more recently on topics like woman’s rights, and the difference between the laws of our country and the ten commandments) and her reading and writings skills are impressive. Yesterday we discussed (among many many other things) what talent is, who has it, when does it appear, is it something you should spend your time searching for and, if you have a great talent should you try your best to make that your job or just a hobby. I found the discussion really really interesting but I’m not sure how much I like the thought of talent, I think practice, effort and learning are more important. Though, I think that if you have some form of natural talent or aptitude it can make an activity more enjoyable and so more likely to be developed. After spending some time talking about what she thought about talents and talented people she decided that she would like to find her talent and that she hopes its dancing or painting (she would like to be a ballet dancer and a ballet instructor) but she wouldn’t mind if she had a different talent and she agreed that if she really wanted to be good at something she would work at it.

So we painted, after some wee tips mostly about holding paintbrushes and the importance of practicing she created some lovely wee paintings. She did then paint over the various paintings a few times and ended up with some slightly less lovely paintings, but learning when to stop and be satisfied with a painting is something I’m still trying to learn so I can’t really expect her to get it immediately.

Here are some photos of her paintings;

And the wee painting I created for her;

Here are the paintings I completed when I was away;

I also made some beaded memory wire necklaces with my lovely six year old cousin, I don’t have any photographs of them though.
